Induction For External Students

Each year we are pleased to welcome a number of external students to our sixth form. We realise it might be daunting at first and have an induction programme for our new students to help them feel at home. This starts with Open Evening where prospective students get to meet subject staff and student ambassadors. If the first stage of their application is successful they will be invited to attend a career and course placement interview which usually takes place in the spring term. This is designed to ensure they are on the right courses. Success at this stage is dependent on the availability of spaces and suitability for the courses.

The most important part of the programme is the four day induction which occurs after GCSE exams. It takes place from the Tues 27th June – Friday 30th June 2017. During the four days students experience the school as a sixth former. They attend lessons, meet the tutors, get to know new students, take part in team building activities and experience the sixth form school environment so that if they are successful in their application they will join us with confidence in September.

During the first term they are buddied up with a friend from induction who will be put in the same tutor group. The form tutor and head of year also meets with them regularly to ensure a smooth transition into sixth form life.
